The Wahoo Parks and Recreation Summer Camp is a full day program for elementary age children.  The summer camp is designed to provide an entertaining, educational, and most importantly…FUN summer full of various activities, games, crafts, sports, and field trips!  The goal of the summer camp program is to allow children to enjoy their summertime while also providing opportunities for physical, mental, and social development.

The heart of the Summer Adventure Camp is centered around establishing a close-knit group of friends.  The children and their counselors participate in a large variety of activities geared towards their age level.  Your child will learn, succeed, make friends, and build skills that will last a lifetime!

Dates and Times
The camp will begin on June 1st and continue, Monday through Friday, until July 30th.  The core program hours are 7:30am-6pm.  Children must be picked up by 6pm.

Ages
Children in kindergarten through fifth grade during the current 2009-2010 school year.

Location
Campers will start and end their day at the Wahoo Civic Center.  Throughout the day, campers may also visit the parks, playground, and aquatic center.

Camp Counselors
The coordinator for the 2010 Summer Adventure Camp program will be Jeff Borreson.  Mr. Borreson is a graduate of Wahoo High School and currently attends the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  He has several years of experience in youth programming including his work with WP&R in the summer camp and after school programs.  Other camp counselors are college and high school students.

Registration Information
Registration begins March 1st for families with children in last year's program.  New participants may begin registering on March 22nd.

Cost
    Weekly Fee:
          Members:  $105 per child
          Non-Members:  $120 per child
Registration Deposit:  Registration requires a $15 per child, per week non-refundable deposit which will be applied to your weekly fee.
Full Time Registrations Only:  Space exists for 30 full time participants.  Deposit fees are due at the time of registration.  The remaining camp fee will be due the Friday before your child attends.  Registrations will be accepted until April 5th or until the program is full...whichever comes first.
Late Payments:  A late fee of $5 per day will be added to your balance if the remaining balance is not paid in full the Friday before each session begins.

What To Wear

Campers should wear clothes and shoes appropriate for both indoor and outdoor activities.  Because many of our activities are active, sandals, flip-slops, and shoes with open toes are not a safe option.  On swim days, campers should bring a swimsuit and towel.  All clothing and towels should be marked with the child’s name.  To protect against the sun’s rays, we recommend sending sun block with your child each day.

Lunch/Snacks
Campers will need to bring a sack lunch and two daily snacks.  A refrigerator is available for use.  Please label any containers for your child’s lunch with his or her name.  Snacks may also be purchased at the Civic Center or Aquatic Center.

Swim Lessons
Campers that would like to register for summer swim lessons at the aquatic center may do so.  Parents should register their children for classes at either 9:30am or 10:10am in any of the three summer sessions.  Camp counselors will escort the campers to and from swim lessons each day

Supplies
The Parks and Recreation Department will provide all materials, equipment, and supplies necessary for the camp activities and games.  Campers should leave all items of sentimental or monetary value at home.  The Parks and Recreation Department is not responsible for personal items that are lost or damaged.

Illness
If your child becomes ill during the day, you will be notified immediately.  If your child requires any medication (over the counter or prescription), written instructions and a parental permission note must be submitted to allow staff to administer and store the medication.

Mandatory Parent's Meeting:    Tuesday, May 25th @ 6:00pm        Civic Center Meeting Room
Parents will be given a full program packet and general overview of the camp.

Field Trips
Field trips are generally held once a week.  Examples of past trips include:  Mahoney State Park, Henry Doorly Zoo, Baseball Games, Roller Skating, Bowling, and more.  A complete trip list will be made available on May 25th.
