2008-2009 SCHOOL YEAR

The Parks and Recreation Department offers the “After School Program” as a convenient service to parents with elementary-age children.  The program provides children in kindergarten through fifth grade a structured, supervised setting after the school day is complete.  The After School Program is available for both Civic Center members and non-members.

Program Objective
To provide a positive, enriching experience for children in the hours after school while in a safe, structured, and supervised environment.

Eligibility
Any child enrolled in grades K-5 at Wahoo Elementary or St. Wenceslaus is eligible for the After School Program.

Registration
Registration for the 2008-09 school year is full.  A waiting list is being maintained.

Starting Date
The program will begin the first day of school and is held Monday through Friday with the exception of holidays and any day school is not in session.  The hours of the program also accommodate early school dismissals.  If there is a scheduled early dismissal or an early dismissal due to inclement weather, the program will begin at the time of early dismissal.

Hours of Operation
3:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.  Please be prompt in picking up your child at or before 6pm.

Location
The After School Program will be held in the Civic Center meeting room.  Participants will also utilize other activity areas of the Civic Center including the gym, pool, game room, and racquetball courts.  In addition, participants may also visit Smith Park and the playground.

Fee Structure

The number of days your child's school is in session during the upcoming week will determine the fee you will have to pay.  Children will be able to attend every day their school is in session.  The fee structure is as follows:

Full School Week
(4-5 days)
Partial School Week
(3 days or less)
Member:
$20/week per child
$15/week per child
Non-Member:
$30/week per child
$23/week per child
Note:  Payment is due on the Friday prior to the week your child attends.  Late payment will result in a $5/day late fee.  If more than one week late with program fees, the student will be removed from the program until full payment with late fees is received.  A late fee will be charged for parents who pick up participants after 6pm.

Registration

An After School Program registration form and parental consent/medical authorization form must be completed and submitted before any child may participate.

Program Format
Weekly activities of the program include swimming, movies, crafts, and organized game days.  There is snack time at the beginning of each afternoon when the children first arrive from school.  Children may bring a snack.  Snacks are not provided.  There is a snack and beverage machine available in the game room for children that bring money to buy those items.  Children are also given an opportunity to complete homework as necessary.

Pick-Up Procedure
Only parents and those authorized by parents, in writing at the time of registation, are allowed to pick up children.  Parents may designate additional escorts by submitting written authorization of placing a phone call on the given day to the After School Director as necessary.  These procedures will be strictly enforced.  Parents/guardians also must notify the After School Director when their child will be absent.

Medication/Illness/Injury
Medication will only be dispensed with written consent and instructions from the parent.  Any program participant that becomes ill during the program will need to be picked up immediately.  In the event of injury, staff will perform the appropriate first aid measures including calling 911 and transporting the child to the hospital if necessary.

Student Conduct
All students enrolled are expected to show respect, follow the rules of the program, and display acceptable behavior.  The After School Director will notify parents of inappropriate behavior.  If gross misbehavior or a repeated violation of the rules occurs, parents will be required to withdraw their child from the program.
