Program Philosophy The mission of all Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sports programs is to promote a fun, yet challenging environment in which participants are introduced to and taught the basics of a given sport. The program is strictly recreational in nature and emphasizes equal opportunity for involvement and participation. Registration Period Now through July 26th. Any registrations received after July 26th will incur a $10 late fee. No registrations accepted after August 2nd without approval from Bob Schmidt. Program Format All league games will be played on Saturdays and Tuesday evenings if needed. Game times may coincide with Husker football. All teams will play a round robin schedule and are guaranteed a minimum of six games. League play will begin in early September. NEW this fall season....we are offering a 2nd-4th grade league and a 4th-6th grade league. 2nd and 4th graders playing "up" need pre-approval from Bob Schmidt prior to registering. 1st & 2nd Grade Clinic: The clinic held at this level will teach the basic fundamentals of bumping, serving, and setting. Tentatively, the clinic is scheduled for the following Mondays: August 23rd, 30th, September 13th, 20th, and October 4th. Time will be 6:30pm or later. More details will follow once registration is complete and enrollment numbers are known. 2nd-4th Grade: Games are played 6 vs. 6. No game scores or league standings are kept. All children receive equal playing time and have the opportunity to play all positions due to the rotation rule. 4th-6th Grade: Games are played 6 vs. 6. Game scores will be kept but not league standings. All children receive equal playing time and have the opportunity to play all positions due to the rotation rule. Equipment All players must wear tennis shoes with non-marking soles. Volleyballs will be provided. Kneepads are optional. Uniforms Youth participating in Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sports need to have two uniform t-shirts, one red and one blue. The playing schedule dictates which color shirt to wear for each game. These shirts are used for all youth sport programs and are available in a variety of youth and adult sizes. They are available for purchase at the Civic Center. Note: Uniform t-shirts are not required for the 1st & 2nd grade clinic. Rosters Team rosters are formed via random selection with the exception of out-of-town teams. Parents may request their child be placed on a team with one other child for legitimate carpooling purposes. Some car pooling requests may not occur. This information needs to be indicated on the registration form (no exceptions). Once teams are formed, coaches are responsible for contacting players on their rosters to set up practices and distribute information. Coaches Wahoo Parks and Recreation utilizes volunteer coaches for all youth sport programs. All head coaches are required to attend the coaches meeting or meet with the league director. Instruction on general coaching philosophy and principles as well as sport-specific information will be discussed. Schedules Playing schedules will be available after August 24th on this web page. Miscellaneous Participants and their parents/guardians should be aware that there is a risk of injury during participation in Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sports due to the inherent nature of the activities.
