EMERALD ASH BORER IS HERE - WHAT NOW?
With confirmation last year by the State of Nebraska Department of Agriculture of
the presence of the Emerald Ash Borer in Nebraska (Omaha and Greenwood)...Wahoo property owners are
strongly encouraged to become well-informed about this invasive pest
and the tremendous impact it is expected to have on the City of Wahoo's
A survey of Wahoo's 'public' trees
which includes trees on public property and in the street right-of-way,
indicates that ash species comprise the largest single species of trees
on public space in our community...nearly 325 trees! Keep in mind, this
does not include the dozens of ash trees on private property. Clearly, EAB will
have a tremendous impact on Wahoo and our tree canopy. Now is the
time to learn as much as possible about EAB and it's impact so
that you can make appropriate decisions regarding your ash trees.

Get 'BACK' to the Basics...
Civic Center has a new Back Hyperextension
machine in the weight room. This simple, but effective machine
offers an intermediate to advanced way of targeting the 'love handles'
and strengthening your back.
Strengthening your lower back and core muscles can aid in the
management of back pain -- as your muscles get stronger, they are able
to offer more support to your spine, which improves your posture and
are two adjustments that can be made to the machine to: 1)
control the height of the hip pad for varied user heights and 2) adjust
the angle of the exercise (see picture below).
foot should be centered on the foot pad. The roller pads will
make contact with the back of your leg just above the ankles.
|Adjusting the Hip Pad and Angle:|
pad should be set to hit just below the hip bone. Lower angles
will target the back. Higher angles will target the hamstrings.
Several variations of the exercise are exhibited below. Recommended sets and reps are as follows:
Without Weight: 25-50 reps w/1-3 sets (3-5 days/week) - Develops endurance, speed, and definition
With Weight: 10-20 reps w/1-3 sets (3-5 days/week) - Develops girth and power
Be stronger than your excuses!
Kassebaum is available for fitness consultations at the Civic Center on
Tuesdays and Thursdays.
