The Parks and Recreation Department relies upon and receives tremendous support from a variety of community and civic organizations.  Two recent facility improvement projects were completed as a result of the generosity of several of these groups:

Two new LED scoreboards (pictured left) were installed at Hackberry Park on Fields #1 and #2.  The new boards are wireless and offer numerical 'balls, strikes, and outs'.  The LED boards are also much more visible during day games.  Thank you to Wahoo Diamond Sports Association (WDSA) for their contribution towards the purchase of one of the boards.

Another project continuing at Hackberry Park is the construction of a new maintenance, storage building near Field #4.  The concrete floor and walls have been installed.  Work will continue this spring to finish the building before the summer ball season.  WDSA and the Wahoo Baseball Association (WBA) both contributed to this project as well.
A new entrance awning (pictured right) was installed at Sam Crawford Field.  The awning pays tribute to the ballparks namesake...Major League Baseball Hall of Famer "Wahoo Sam" Crawford.  The awning is also illuminated.  Special thanks to the Wahoo Kiwanis Club for their donation towards the cost of the new awning.  We are also excited to announce that Crawford Field will be the host of the 2012 Class B Seniors State Legion baseball tournament this summer.  The first time Wahoo has ever hosted a state Legion baseball tournament!

A 'vision' for Hackberry Park is unveiled...

Working in conjunction with JEO Consulting Group, the Parks and Recreation Department has developed a conceptual design plan for the 27 acres of land acquired adjacent to Hackberry Park.  The plan addresses many existing outdoor recreational facilities needs that have been identified...including new ballfields, multi-purpose fields (soccer, football), basketball/tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, additional parking, larger concession/restroom facilities, trail expansion, and support facilities such as shelters, playgrounds, batting cages and maintenance/storage.  The design plan also addresses storm water run-off issues that are currently experienced at the park during rain events.
